DeKALB – Molly Talkington, who has served as the city of Champaign’s financial services manager and budget officer for six years, has been hired to serve as DeKalb’s new finance director.
Talkington, a Northern Illinois University alumna, replaces Jeff Wilkins, who has been serving as the city’s interim finance director after the departure of Cathy Haley earlier this year.
“As a graduate of Northern Illinois University, I am excited to return to DeKalb to serve the city and its residents,” Talkington said in a news release. “I look forward to supporting the city’s development efforts while retaining its history through my work in the finance department.”
City Manager Anne Marie Gaura said DeKalb has found the best candidate to oversee the management of city finances.
“Molly brings a great deal of municipal finance experience to the city’s management team,” Gaura said in the release. “I am confident that, under her leadership, we will be able to continue to address the fiscal challenges facing the city and identify solutions for our capital infrastructure.”
Talkington’s first day at City Hall will be Sept. 20.
