Prep roundup: Clinton-Rosette's Carpenter to compete in IESA state golf tourney

Clinton-Rosette’s Jack Carpenter will compete Saturday at the IESA State Championship at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria. The eighth-grader will tee off at 11:24 a.m. in the event, which started in 2011. Carpenter shot an 86 at the regional in Rockford, taking 12th.


G-K falls to Rockford Christian: The Cogs lost 6-1. Damen Tijerina scored the goal Tuesday for Genoa-Kingston, assisted by Lucas Feliciano.


Sycamore edges Yorkville: The Sycamore doubles teams swept to lead the Spartans to a 3-2 win.

Paige Prombo and Kate Majerus won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1. Maggie McConnaughay and Maddie Weaver won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, and Emily Grayburn and Laney Hansen picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3.

Brooklyn Scott lost a tough one at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.


Indian Creek beats Somonauk: The Timberwolves won at home, 173-203.

Louis Faivre was the medalist with a 40.

Gargani powers G-K: Nick Gargani shot a 37, winning by six strokes and powering Genoa-Kingston to a 189-211 win over Oregon.

Evan Skarzynski and Vinny Giorno each shot a 50.


G-K tops Oregon: The Cogs won, 252-280. Hannah Mueller shot a 59 for Genoa-Kingston.

IC falls to Somonauk: The Timberwolves lost, 204-230.

Jilliann Headley led Indian Creek with a 53 and Andrea Carmona added a 59.



DeKalb fourth: The Barbs shot a 330 Monday to finish fourth at Barrington.

Jack Paeglow tied for the medalist spot in the 13-team event with a 74.

Kaneland tops Wheaton: Will Marshall shot a 34 and the Knights won, 160-177.

Bryce Stair added a 40 for Kaneland.


Kaneland tops Rosary: The Knights won, 5-2.

Hayley Lemp won her first varsity singles match, bouncing back after losing the first set.

DeKalb swept at Sterling: The Barbs lost, 5-0, to the Warriors.

Helene Collin and Izzy Meyers Miller nearly escaped with a win at No. 1 doubles, but lost, 7-5, 6-6 (4-7), 6-4.
