Friends of the DeKalb Public Library plans weekend book, CD, DVD sale

DeKALB – The Friends of the DeKalb Public Library will host a sale of books, CDs and DVDs from Oct. 20, to 22, in the Yusunas Meeting Room on the lower level of the library, at 309 Oak St.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 20, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 21 and 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 22.

The majority of the nearly 6,000 items have been donated by library patrons and community members, and are in very good to nearly new condition.

For ease of shopping, the books have been sorted into various categories, such as hard cover fiction, trade fiction, science-fiction and fantasy, history, biography and memoir, art, cooking, large print, crafts, children’s and more.

Prices range from 25 cents for children’s books and mass market paperbacks, to $1 for trade and large paperbacks, and $1.50 for all hard cover books.

Audio books and music CDs are $1 each, and DVDs are $2.50. There also will be some specially priced books. Sunday will be the all-day $5 per bag sale for books, with bags provided at the sale. All audio books, CDs and DVDs will be half-price that day.

Since its inception in 2002, the Friends have raised and donated more than $50,000 in supplemental funds for the library, supporting such programs as The Big Read, Book Babies, and the Adult and Children’s Summer Reading Programs. The Friends also contributed substantially to the recent library expansion.

Though not required, individuals will be able to join the Friends’ organization during the sale, thus further supporting the library.
