Letter: A tip of the cap to our sheriff, Roger Scott

In the culture we live in today, it seems elected officials have the shroud of negativity surrounding them. I would like to recognize and commend the service of DeKalb County Sheriff Roger Scott. His many contributions and commitment to the county generally go unnoted, or might be taken for granted, as he has been a reliable public servant for so long.

Roger is a professional in his duties as sheriff. He brings his sound values and beliefs to the job every day. He is a strong, but unassuming, leader known to put his officers ahead of himself. In managing an always-challenging budget, Roger has defended raises for his employees ahead of his own.

Roger is a good husband, father and family man. He and Marsha have fostered many children, adopting five of them into their hearts and home. He has served on the Children's Advocacy Center Advisory Board since its inception, advocating for best practices in responding to child abuse cases. He helps keep the children of DeKalb County protected and safe. Roger lives the parable, "the first shall be the last and the last shall be first."
