HINCKLEY – A Big Rock woman was injured in a head-on collision Tuesday morning in Hinckley after a Hinckley man tried to pass two cars in dense fog, police said.
Eric C. Forbes, 40, of the 9500 block of Somonauk Road, Hinckley, was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant east about 6:50 a.m. Tuesday on Route 30 in Hinckley when he tried to pass two cars at the same time, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. Forbes was also injured.
Much of northeastern Illinois was under a dense fog advisory Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service.
Forbes struck head-on the Chevrolet Silverado a 60-year-old Big Rock woman was driving. Both vehicles had extensive front-end damage, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Lt. Jim Burgh said.
The woman was out of her vehicle when police and fire officials arrived, but Forbes needed to be freed from his vehicle.
He was later transported to Northwestern Medicine Valley West Hospital in Sandwich with injuries that were not life-threatening, Burgh said.
The woman was taken to Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, and police did not know her condition. Burgh said she appeared to have a head injury but was conscious and alert.
Forbes was cited for improper overtaking and reckless driving, according to the release. He was released with a notice to appear in court.
Route 30 was closed from East Sandwich Road to County Line Road for a “period of time,” Burgh said.
Firefighters from Hinckley and Big Rock assisted deputies on the scene.
