Matthew Apgar - mapgar@shawmedia.com DeKalb firefighter Pat Eriksen crosses Annie Glidden Road, where a fire engine blocks off a section of the road for downed high voltage power lines in front of Jimmy John's on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 in DeKalb. The road was shut down from University Village to Hillcrest Drive.

DeKALB – While the culprit is unknown, power lines were downed in the 900 block of North Annie Glidden Road, and the stretch between Hillcrest Drive and Varsity Blvd. will be closed for a bit for safety reasons.

DeKalb Police officer Jim Winters said just before 3 p.m. the stretch could be closed about two hours while first responders investigate the incident and ComEd workers make sure everything is working properly.

Winters said it wasn't clear what caused the incident – that it could be anything from a car to a bird to the rain that's begun falling.

While the rain is expected to subside as evening approaches, the temperature will soon nosedive below freezing, which will make for icy roads.
