The Thursday and Friday crash report cries out for a public service announcement for seat belts.
The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported four crashes between 8 p.m. Thursday and
11:10 a.m. Friday, none of them resulting in injuries. According to the news releases reporting the crashes, all parties were wearing seat belts.
Deputies responded about 8 p.m. Thursday to Governor Beveridge Highway and Chicago Road in Somonauk for a single-vehicle crash, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Jason J. Dion, 40, of the 2500 block of North 4645 Road in Somonauk, was driving north on Governor Beveridge Highway, when he was unable to stop at the stop sign near the intersection. The vehicle slid through the intersection and into a ditch. The car then struck a tree head on.
Dion was not injured but was cited for operating an uninsured vehicle and unlawful display of registration.
Later, deputies responded about 1:50 a.m. to Loves Road south of Barber Greene Road near Cortland for a single-vehicle crash.
A 21-year-old Arlington Heights resident had been driving north on Loves Road when the vehicle went into a ditch. The car struck two traffic signals as it lost control.
The driver was not injured, and no citations were issued.
About 11 a.m. Friday, police said Kenneth J. Augsburg, 65, of the 200 block of South Prairie Street in Creston, was southbound in a semitrailer on Maplewood Road south of Chicago Road when the rear right tire slid into the west ditch, causing the vehicle to overturn and land on its right side. Augsburg refused medical assistance, according to a news release.
Minutes afterward, deputies responded to a report that a 2016 Hyundai Elantra driven by Alan J. Mesch, of the 2000 block of 12th Street in Peru, was driving south on Leland Road when it lost control and slid through the four-way stop at Chicago Road and hit a westbound 2010 Lincoln MKZ driven by Cody S. Mersman, 22, of the 2200 block of Earlville.
About 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, multiple people were injured in a two-car crash at the corner of Peace and Barber Greene roads, and a portion of Barber Greene Road was blocked while vehicles remained in the intersection.
According to a news release from the sheriff’s office, Robert J. Barbush, 27, of the 1200 block of Jenny Drive in Sycamore, was northbound on Peace Road when he lost control of his 2016 Hyundai Tucson because of the snow and slush and slid through a red light. The Tucson crashed into the passenger side of a 2013 Chevy Cruze driven by Gary R. Loehmann, 50, of the first block of Prairiefield Avenue in Cortland. The Cruze was headed east.
Barbush was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, although both men’s injuries were minor.
They were wearing their seat belts, the release said.
