Coach Adam Wickness said his Sycamore girls basketball team really wanted an outright Northern Illinois Big 12 East title.
Kylie Feuerbach did all she could to make it happen.
The Sycamore sophomore scored 39 points in the only game the Spartans played last week and was named the Daily Chronicle Athlete of the Week.
Feuerbach’s effort powered the Spartans to a 56-50 win Saturday at Morris.
NIU men lose: Central Michigan scored the last six points to win in DeKalb, 80-72.
The Huskies (11-15, 4-9) trailed 74-72 after a layup by Noah McCarty, but Kevin McKay scored the next four points on layups for the Chippewas (15-10, 5-8).
Eugene German scored 23 to lead the Huskies, while McKay scored 33 for CMU.
Woods earn MAC award: Forward Courtney Woods earned her fourth Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week honor this season, the league announced Tuesday.
Woods led the way for NIU in its 2-0 week, averaging a double-double. She averaged 26 points and 12 rebounds a game in two starts last week.
Woods finished with 29 points, grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds, all on the defensive end, and dished out four assists in NIU’s 73-68 victory over Bowling Green. It was her eighth double-double of the season and second of the week after a 23-point, 12-rebound performance in the Huskies’ 84-61 win at Akron.
DeKalb takes care of Ottawa: Blake Williams scored 15 points as the Barbs downed the Pirates, 56-48.
Isaiah Youngquist added 14 and Michael Vilet 11 for DeKalb. Michael Newman had a team-best seven boards.
G-K falls at Rock Falls: The Cogs lost, 64-45.
Griffin Hansen scored 19 for the Cogs and Nate Nesler added 12.
Kaneland loses to Morris: The Knights lost, 39-37.
