SYCAMORE – A DeKalb County judge on Tuesday set an April 24 trial date for a Kingston man facing allegations of sexual abuse of a child.

Bruce R. Best, 46, of the 8600 block of Wolf Road, is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, which is punishable by six to 30 years in prison. Prosecutors accuse him of inappropriate contact with a girl younger than 13, according to court records. He also is charged with criminal sexual abuse, which is punishable by three to seven years in prison.

Prosecutors said the inappropriate contact between Best and the child occurred between June and December of 2014, while the victim was 12, as well as between April 2015 to July 2016, after the girl had turned 13.

A conviction on any of the charges would require Best to register as a sex offender for life.

Chief Judge Robbin Stuckert said pretrial motions should be filed by March 20.

Best remains in jail in lieu of $75,000 bond. Stuckert had ordered that Best be placed on electronic home monitoring and have no contact with children should he post $7,500 to be released. Stuckert denied in December a motion to reduce Best’s bond.
