Kishwaukee College continuing ed offering spring classes

The continuing education department at Kishwaukee College is offering a variety of classes for community members this spring. For a complete list of classes, visit www.kish.edu/CE.

Here is a small sampling of classes beginning in March and April:

Chinese Language and Culture meets from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 20 through May 10. Participants will learn to pronounce words and names, basic conversation, how to read the phonetic systems, and how to read and write elementary Chinese characters. Chinese culture will be explored through activities, food and films. The cost for this class is $125.

Fitness: The Complete Workout – Low Impact meets from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 2 through May 10, at the Family Service Agency – Club 55 in DeKalb. This class is for adults of all ages who want to get in shape and/or stay fit. Classes will include stretching, strength training and cardio workouts. Students will work at their own pace and will need to bring hand weights (3 to 5 pounds), an exercise mat and water. Participants should wear comfortable clothes and gym shoes. This class is offered at a senior rate of $25 for participants who are at least age 60; the non-senior rate is $75.

Food Sanitation Certification meets from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Kishwaukee College. This class covers safe food handling practices in the food service industry and qualifies participants to take the Illinois Food Service Sanitation Certification exam which is administered at the end of the class session. After passing the exam, the State of Illinois will assess a $35 certification fee. The certificate is good for five years. This class also will be offered in Spanish on Mondays, April 23 and 30, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The cost for this class is $185.

Drones 101 – Beginner Class meets from 9 am. to noon Tuesday, April 10. There is a second opportunity to take the class on Tuesday, April 17, from 6 to 9 p.m. This class is designed for anyone considering purchasing a drone as well as those who have recently purchased a drone and want instruction on the operation of it. The class covers basic flying, operation safety tips, pre-flight inspections, evaluating flight conditions, and when a drone should be registered with the FAA. The cost for this class is $15.
