Genoa man seriously injured by train, flown to Rockford

GENOA – A 42-year-old Genoa man was flown to a Rockford hospital Sunday night after he was hit by a train and suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, Police Chief Robert Smith said.

Smith said officers were called about 9:30 p.m. about a domestic violence incident at an apartment in the 300 block of West Hill Street. Police said the man had left the apartment before officers arrived.

About 15 minutes later, officers heard the train, which runs directly behind the apartment complex, come to an abrupt stop, Smith said. Officers went to see what had happened, heard a man yelling in pain and found him under the train with a serious arm injury.

He was treated at the scene and flown to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center, Smith said.

Smith said no one was going to be arrested regarding the call.

“It was just a verbal spat,” he said.

The man’s name will not be released, Smith said.
