Letter: How are children getting guns?

To the Editor:

After a recent incident in DeKalb, I am scared to say that this gun problem is way out of control. We just celebrated a week ago the 10-year anniversary of the shooting at Northern Illinois University, yet here we are having a stand-off between police officers and a pedestrian who was armed.

It's frightening and scary that not only did this cause the neighborhood to go on lockdown, but it causes traffic to be stopped and the school nearby to be on lockdown, as well. In all honesty, I know there are more people here who are armed. It’s frightening.

Just put the guns down, you guys.

We need stricter laws on getting guns. We need something to change, because it is getting out of control. How many lives need to be lost before something changes?

I think like many high school students have started to do, not only college students and adults, we need to speak out. But these children who are having to live through this every day. There are increasingly more school shootings happening, and it’s getting to be at an alarming rate.

Why are children the ones to shoot up schools? Not even adults as much as children these days. It’s frightening, and I can’t imagine what the teachers, students, parents and everyone else feels about this. I don’t see why anyone needs anything more than a hunting rifle or a handgun.
