KINGSTON – An Elgin police officer charged with driving his motorcycle under the influence remains in critical condition in a Rockford hospital after a crash Thursday afternoon, according to hospital staff.

Kenneth W. Ericson, 49, of the 300 block of Cassidy Lane, Elgin, was traveling east about 3 p.m. on Base Line Road when he failed to stop at the Annie Glidden Road intersection and was hit by a 2009 Toyota Camry going north driven by Mark A. Sparacino, 51, of the 200 block of Leeward Lane, Rochelle, according to a release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Ericson was ejected from his motorcycle and flown to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where he was in critical condition Monday evening, hospital staff said. Ericson was not wearing a helmet, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Andy Sullivan said.
