Job interview workshops to take place at library

DeKALB – Teenagers can learn skills and gain confidence at the DeKalb Public Library’s interview workshop for teens to take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

This workshop is specifically designed for high school students who are looking for their first summer job, after school job, or first full-time/entry-level job after graduation. This interactive program, led by experienced job coach Bob Schlacks, will introduce interviewing skills such as:

• Pre-interview checklist

• The most commonly asked teen interviewing questions

• The importance of appearance, punctuality and nonverbal communication

• How to have the variables within your control work for you to get the job that you want

This free program is intended for high school students. Registration is not required. It will take place in the lower level Zimmerman Meeting Room.

For information, contact Susan at susang@dkpl.org or 815-756-9568, ext. 3400.

Adults also can benefit from job interview workshops. A similar workshop for adults will be from 6 to 8 p.m. May 22. At this session, Schlacks will discuss:

• What “soft skills” companies are really looking for

• What to do before, during and after an interview

• The importance of appearance, punctuality and nonverbal communication

• The five different kinds of interviews

• The 12 most commonly asked questions

• How to have the variables within your control working for you

Schlacks has had a long career in human resources and has trained job hunters in résumé and interview preparation at Illinois workNet for the past 15 years.

This workshop is free and no registration is required. It also will take place in the Zimmerman Meeting Room.

For information, email Britta at brittak@dkpl.org.
