Countywide food drive puts stamp on new record

SYCAMORE – The extra promotional efforts in Sycamore seem to have done the trick by allowing the National Association of Letter Carriers to break its 2017 record of food collected from the Stamp Out Hunger drive.

As of Monday, more than 30,000 pounds of food was collected to support DeKalb and Sycamore food pantries, according to food drive co-chairwoman Clare Kron. About 22,000 pounds of food were collected in DeKalb and about 8,000 pounds will gathered from Sycamore.

“Our focused effort of increasing donations from Sycamore was rewarded with at least 1,200 more pounds than last year,” Kron said. “Therefore, our overall total increased.”

These numbers, however, are not final as additional bags of food continue to come in.
