Judge adds 3 years to sentence for concealing the murder
SYCAMORE – Sean Des Roches’ life hasn’t been the same since his 19-year-old daughter, Moorea, was brutally murdered by Michael Kulpin on June 3, 2016.
Before Kulpin was sentenced Tuesday to 63 years in a maximum-security prison for beating and stabbing Des Roches to death in their apartment in the 900 block of Kimberly Drive, Sean Des Roches told the court in a victim impact statement that he breaks down anytime he hears songs by bands that he and Moorea saw together. He said his daughter’s son is now old enough to ask about his mommy up in heaven.
“Because of the monster that sits in this room,” Des Roches said of Kulpin, “we are all forever changed.”
Before passing sentence, DeKalb County Chief Judge Robbin Stuckert also heard from Moorea’s mother, as well as Kulpin himself.
