SYCAMORE – A DeKalb County judge ordered that a DeKalb man accused of repeatedly beating his girlfriend be released on his signature Friday afternoon.
Keonne T. Mebane, 19, of the
900 block of Fotis Drive, has been charged with aggravated domestic battery and, if convicted, could face three to seven years in prison. He’s also charged with two counts of domestic battery and driving while his license was suspended.
Police said in court records Mebane’s girlfriend was lying low in her car June 20 in the 1000 block of West Hillcrest Drive, afraid to go home where she might run into him, when he arrived, got into the car, hopped into her seat and choked her.
Records show she had scratches and bite marks on her face, neck and arms, corroborating her claims Mebane had abused her in those ways.
The records show the victim said he then drove her to a nearby parking lot on Regent Drive, where he continued attacking her, and that after he’d pulled her back into the car by her leg as she tried to escape, she eventually got away and hopped into a stranger’s car.
Charges were filed the next day.
Judge Philip Montgomery ruled Friday that Mebane be released, but be barred from having contact with the victim. Mebane is due back in court at 9 a.m. Aug. 24.
