To the editor:
I was disappointed to see that John Mathey, Libertarian candidate for state representative in the 70th district, might not be joining the race after all. Personally, I think the bar of about 1,800 signatures is way too high for third party and independent candidates, especially when Democrats and Republicans only need 500. This high bar unnecessarily restricts voters' choices, and keeps legitimate voices from the debate.
The two major parties need to open up the ballot to more candidates, and stop trying to be the only two players in town. Keep up the fight, John.
