Elgin Film Festival looking for entries

Celebrating a decade of excellence in short filmmaking, the 10th annual Elgin Short Film Festival is taking place Sept. 22 at the Hemmens Cultural Center, and welcoming entries from filmmakers across the area for competition.

Entries can be up to 20 minutes long, including credits. Any filmmaker may submit work, even if it has been entered into other festival competitions.

Filmmakers are encouraged to submit films in every genre and subject matter as long as they are within the scope of the official rules. Filmmakers can submit their films via www.filmfreeway.com. There are two categories for entries: live action and animation. First prize will be awarded $1,000 and a trophy. Second prize is $500 and a trophy, and third is $300 and a trophy.

The entry fee for films submitted by Aug. 3 is $40. Films submitted after Aug. 3 require a $50 fee. The deadline to submit is Aug. 24.
