SANDWICH – Brian Fasnacht has been chosen to be the first school resource officer in School District 430.
The Sandwich police officer will be assigned to the Sandwich High School, Chief Jim Bianchi said at Monday night’s City Council meeting.
He said he felt Fasnacht is qualified for the job. He has served as a detective, a lead homicide investigator, and has had many specific areas of training that will be needed in this job.
Bianchi said Fasnacht, who currently is working at a patrol officer, soon will get more specific training as an SRO, and will be the first police officer to serve as a regular member of the staff, according to an agreement approved by the City Council, police department and school administrators.
Bianchi said a couple of other officers applied for the job, but he felt Fasnacht was best qualified.
