DeKALB – A 16-year-old from Aurora has been charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm after police say he fired several rounds midday Tuesday in the 800 block of North Annie Glidden Road, according to a news release from the DeKalb Police Department.
According to a news release from the department, police responded at
12:45 p.m. to the report of shots fired, and police canvassed the area through the afternoon and interviewed multiple witnesses. Video surveillance helped police identify the suspect, and while searching an apartment in the 800 block of Spiros Court, officers found two guns hidden, one of which matched the caliber of shell casings found in a parking lot in the 900 block of Pappas Drive.
The teen was arrested and will be taken to the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center, according to the release.
Witnesses had described the suspects as three or four dark-skinned men, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.
The case is still under investigation, no injuries have been reported.
“Nobody’s reported to be hurt, and nobody’s reported to be a victim,” DeKalb Police Cmdr. Bob Redel said at the scene.
Northern Illinois University police and DeKalb County Sheriff’s deputies have been assisting in the investigation, according to the release.
According to an update to an NIU safety bulletin, a third arrest has been made in another recent report of violent activity: a robbery Friday night in the 1100 block of Regent Drive.
Police arrested Xavier L. Nicholson, 19, of the 700 block of North Annie Glidden Road, and Demetrius D. Ewing, 21, of the 700 block of Regent Drive, on Saturday, and the two men were charged with robbery. According to the bulletin, a third man, Zachary G. Henderson, 18, of DeKalb, has been arrested as well. He was not in the DeKalb County Jail as of 5 p.m. Tuesday, but he also faces a robbery charge, according to the bulletin.
Nicholson remains in jail on $25,000 bond set Monday by DeKalb County Judge Philip Montgomery, while Ewing was ordered to be released on his signature.
No update has been posted yet, however, on an attempted armed robbery about 11 p.m. Saturday, in which the victim said three men, one of them brandishing a handgun, tried to rob him in the 700 block of Regent Drive
