GENOA – Chad Wilmarth wanted to do something special in his first year as coach of Genoa-Kingston, so he took his Cogs to Walcamp Outdoor Ministries and Retreat Center in Kingston for an overnight spanning the first two days of camp.
He didn’t realize it at the time, but he’s started a tradition. The Cogs spent three days and two nights at Walcamp this year and held their first practice in shells there Wednesday.
After the success of the camp last year, Wilmarth knew right away he wanted to make it an annual tradition.
“It’s something I really enjoy, the kids really enjoy,” Wilmarth said. “It’s something that makes our program memorable and gives our lower-level kids something to look forward to. That was the idea: Let’s do something special.”
