DeKALB – A Cortland woman received several traffic citations Thursday after police said her vehicle made contact with a group of cross country runners from Sycamore High School near the intersection of Peace and Barber Greene roads.
Police said Megan A. Kern, 22, of the 100 block of West Ellen Avenue in Cortland, was heading west on Barber Greene shortly after 4 p.m. when she pulled her vehicle in front of group of runners as it crossed the road using the crosswalk along Peace. Three of the runners were among those hit, although none suffered any injuries, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said Kern then turned north onto Peace and left the scene. Sheriff’s deputies later tracked down the vehicle, which they said showed no signs of damage.
Kern was cited for failure to exercise due care to avoid contact with a pedestrian, failure to yield to pedestrians in a crosswalk and failure to stop or yield before entering a stop intersection.
