DeKalb man charged in Shell station robbery

Bond set at $40K for 28-year-old

SYCAMORE – A 28-year-old DeKalb man is in jail on $40,000 bond after police said he recently robbed the Shell station on North Seventh Street using a BB gun.

Garry N. Dalcanton, of the 400 block of North Fifth Street, has been charged with aggravated robbery and could face four to 15 years in prison.

The clerk at the gas station, 308 N. Seventh St., told police in court records that he was working just before 5 a.m. Nov. 10 when a man came in, showed a gun and demanded money from the register. The clerk gave him the money, but video surveillance showed Dalcanton’s vehicle, leading to his arrest, the records show.

Police said Dalcanton was arrested at his home Friday, and that he confessed to the robbery, but said the weapon he used was only a BB gun.

DeKalb County Judge Philip Montgomery set Dalcanton’s bond at $40,000 on Saturday, and Dalcanton’s public defender, Larry Olson, has filed a motion to reduce his bond, calling it “excessive,” the records show.

Dalcanton is due back in court at 9 a.m. Dec. 4.
