Kim Waterman, media relations manager with Northwestern Medicine, said Peterson was transferred Monday afternoon to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, where as of Monday evening staff said he’s in critical condition.
The Gonzalezes said both Maggie and a gray cat – which another neighbor from down the street, 17-year-old Christine Seuffer, held during the rescue – were saved by firefighters, and were told the pets had been taken to Prairie View Animal Hospital in DeKalb.
“Thank God,” Nury Gonzalez said.
Her family has a dog, too, so she could empathize with Peterson.
“I totally get it, but we had to tell him he just couldn’t be in there anymore,” Nury Gonzalez said.
