Corcoran, Smith spark fired up Huskie defense as secondary executes late
DETROIT – In many ways, Friday’s Mid-American Conference Championship Game victory for Northern Illinois was the tale of two halves. A Huskies offense that ranked 11th in the MAC in scoring offense and near the bottom of the country in several offensive categories scored 20 unanswered points.
But the Huskies’ defense that struggled in the first half performed to its billing in a dominant second-half showing, as NIU won its fourth MAC Championship game and fifth MAC title overall, 30-29.
NIU defensive end Sutton Smith was quick to distribute credit to several players, but acknowledged Josh Corcoran’s impact.
