LA SALLE – The DeKalb boys bowling team fell by 36 pins, 3,323-3,287, despite taking two of three games against LaSalle-Peru.
Michael Rae’s 672 series led the Barbs. Aaron Olson added a 213 high game, and Logan Zarek rolled a 580 series.
GIRLS BOWLING
Knights place sixth: Kaneland’s girls bowling team finished sixth at the Charger Scramble, its first tournament of the year.
Tasya Tribby was eighth as an individual in the Blue Division with her score of 319. Faith Thomas had the high game with 192 pins.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Timberwolves fall: Indian Creek fell at Somonauk, 54-43, despite the scoring efforts of Jade Milostan with 16 points and Katie Cassidy with 14.
The Timberwolves now are 3-5 overall and 1-1 in the Little Ten.
NIU FOOTBALL
Smith honored: Fresh off a Mid-American Conference Championship Game victory in which he took Defensive Player of the Game honors, Sutton Smith has been named one of four finalists for the 2018 Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year.
Smith joins a list of nominees that includes Josh Allen of Kentucky, Jaylon Ferguson of Louisiana Tech and Clelin Ferrell of Clemson. Among that group, Smith ranks first in total sacks with 15, which also ranks him tops in the Football Bowl Subdivision. Smith’s 24.5 tackles for loss rank him second in the FBS. The winner of the award will be announced Wednesday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Huskies best Nevada: Northern Illinois ran away with a 98-69 victory Sunday over the Nevada Wolf Pack in the Huskies’ second game at the Lady Griz Classic in Missoula, Montana.
Courtney Woods had a game-high 28 points on 10 of 14 shooting, and Mikayla Voigt poured in 21 points to help lead the way to the NIU (4-3) victory over Nevada (1-6). The Huskies shot 12 of 20 from beyond the 3-point arc as a team, with Woods sinking four of her five 3-point attempts.

Gabby Nikitinaite added 16 points today and shot 10 of 10 on free throws. Nikitinaite, Riley Blackwell and Myia Starks each added three assists apiece.
NIU outrebounded Nevada 42-28, outshot the Wolf Pack 34 of 60 (56.7 percent) to 26 of 65 (40 percent).
Terae Briggs paced the Wolf Pack with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Jade Redmon added 14 points.
The Huskies next play Southern Illinois in Carbondale at 7 p.m. Friday.
