Local roundup: Hinckley-Big Rock girls soccer bests Plano

Ashleigh Wackerlin’s hat trick propelled Hinckley-Big Rock to a 4-0 win over Plano in the Class 1A Stillman Valley Regional semifinal.

Tori Prellberg added a goal, as well, as the the Royals advance to Saturday’s final against No.1-seed Stillman Valley.


Sablan dominant in victory: Milani Sablan struck out 19 and allowed only four hits in Sycamore’s 7-1 home win over Morris.

Amanda Swedberg tripled and was 2 for 4. Gracyn Gabriel was 2 for 3 with an RBI. Faith Reynolds, Erin Simmons, Mia Richards and Haley Trela each had a hit.

Cogs smash Oregon: Genoa-Kingston bashed 17 hits in a 13-2 victory over Oregon.

Olivia Simmons and Leyah Langley each smacked three hits, with Simmons hitting a double and driving in three runs and Langley contributing five RBIs. Leea Perry was 2 for 4 with three runs scored, and Carly Kline was 2 for 4 with two runs. Ashley Peterson also drove in two runs. Simmons picked up the complete game victory with eight strikeouts.

Kaneland shuts out Rochelle: The Knights defeated the Hubs, 18-0, in three innings. Lauren Callahan was 3 for 3 with three doubles, two runs scored and five RBIs. Danyelle Borysiewicz had a hit, three runs scored and three RBIs. Rose Roach hit a homer and drove in two runs.

Donatela Sommesi, Olivia Ortegel, Olivia Stoker and Cassidy Motyka also scored two runs apiece.


Barbs fall to Hampshire: DeKalb was handed a 4-1 defeat by Hampshire. Emrys Draper grabbed a victory for the Barbs at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3. DeKalb is 2-15 overall and 1-5 in conference.


Huskies sent to consolation bracket: The Northern Illinois University softball team suffered a 6-5 setback to Central Michigan in a back-and-forth game in the Huskies’ first game of the 2019 Mid-American Conference Softball Tournament on Wednesday at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio.

In a game that saw two ties and four lead changes, a three-run sixth inning by No. 5 seed Central Michigan (22-26-1) proved to be costly for the fourth seeded Huskies (26-24).
