What is DuPage Valley boys soccer going to look like now with the Barbs in the mix? What about Interstate 8 golf now that Sycamore and Kaneland are in the fold?
With DeKalb, the question is how competitive they’ll be against much larger schools. But the Barbs already compete in the largest class come postseason time, so they’re facing the likes of Metea Valley, Neuqua Valley, Waubonsie Valley, Naperville North and Naperville Central anyway. In theory, the new conference lines up much better with what DeKalb faces in the postseason.
Sycamore and Kaneland – plus Rochelle, Ottawa, LaSalle-Peru and Morris – will join Sandwich and Plano in the new Interstate 8. It’s a weird mix of familiar, kinda familiar and brand-spanking new.
In the very, very familiar category, Sycamore, Kaneland and Morris all were in the old Northern Illinois Big 12 East and faced each other a lot. A lot. Ottawa, LaSalle-Peru and Rochelle were in the NIB 12 West and played the East Division schools less frequently. And Sandwich and Plano both are unfamiliar, by and large, save for occasional postseason run-ins or early season tune-ups, depending on the sport.
Obviously there’s more. But that’s what jumps out right away once you look beyond football.
