Finding the right ammo is just as important as having the right firearm. When it comes to purchasing ammo for your firearm, there are definitely ways to optimize the process and get the most out of each round. Here are 3 tips for purchasing ammunition:
1. Don’t be afraid to purchase ammunition in bulk for future use. This keeps the cost down, just like buying anything in bulk does, and will ensure you’re never in a situation where you need ammunition but don’t have any. Even though we aren’t talking about preparing for a doomsday scenario, buying in bulk and having a comfortable store of ammunition will mean you won’t have to worry about acquiring new ammo every time you head out to the range. Remember to store the ammo correctly - if you don't keep it in its original box, make sure it is properly labeled and kept in a cool, dark, and dry place, like a closet.
2. Look for sales, and be careful for price gouges. Make sure you know what the average rate is for the caliber you care about so you don’t end up paying too much. Sales can happen any time of the year, but especially during Black Friday, last minute holiday sales, and also during the start of the hunting season.
3. Don’t skimp on the quality of ammunition. Ammunition today is designed to last a long time, but be wary of older surplus ammunition from around 100 years ago. Even if it’s the same caliber, the tolerances for defects were much higher in the early 20th century. Not only that, but when it comes to older ammo, you don’t know how the ammo was stored or whether it was stored properly.
